Create Instant Elegance & Privacy With the Italian Cypress Tree

Fast-Growing, Low-Maintenance Evergreen for Vertical Appeal

The Italian Cypress Tree (Cupressus sempervirens) is a tall, narrow evergreen that adds striking vertical structure to any landscape. With dense, blue-green foliage and a fast growth rate, it’s perfect for privacy, elegance, and minimal upkeep.

This cypress is well suited to topiaries, large pots or containers, entryways or anywhere you desire to have vertical appeal. The Italian cypress tree is adaptable to many settings and will prove to be a plant that grows very tall in a short time and can handle hot, dry weather. The Italian cypress plant can also enhance curb appeal in your landscape.

At times the tall height of this tree can be challenging to fit within residential landscapes. The Italian Cypress tree is best suited for framing, as a strong accent around large buildings, or informal landscape. It is a great choice for a wind-blocking tree and is long living!

Never prune the height of your Italian Cypress tree until it reaches your desired height. Don’t fret, it establishes quickly and you will have a tall tree in no time! The fast growth rate is ideal if you are looking for tree height fast. Be sure to check out privacy tree and fast growing evergreen tree options.

How Fast Do Italian Cypress Trees Grow?

Italian cypress trees are extremely fast-growing trees, oftentimes growing up to 3 feet in a single growing season. You can ensure its growth by providing ample water and making sure that they all get plenty of sunlight.

How Tall Do Italian Cypress Trees Grow?

The Italian Cypress Tree is known for its tall, slender shape. At full size, one of these cypress trees can grow anywhere from 30 to 40 feet, but often only 3 to 5 feet wide.

Are Italian Cypress Tree Roots Invasive?

Italian cypress roots travel deep into the ground, but are not necessarily invasive. Italian cypress trees can be planted close to your home as they are unlikely to cause foundation problems. Their roots will travel quite deep, but not exceedingly wide.

Are Italian Cypress Trees Toxic To Dogs?

While cypress trees are not dangerous for humans to be around, the same is not true for pets. The Italian cypress is known to be highly poisonous to dogs and horses. It may be worthwhile to consider another type of tree if you have any outdoor pets.

Do Deer Eat Italian Cypress Trees?

Italian cypress trees are not usually eaten by deer or any other outdoor creatures, but they do not deter deer from approaching a property, like a true deer-resistant tree or shrub.

Italian Cypress Tree Care

The Blue Italian Cypress grows and thrives in acidic, well-drained soil with full sun. The Mediterranean cypress can tolerate a wide range of soil types.

Newly planted cypress can benefit from adding a slow-release fertilizer to the planted tree once a year. Although it is drought tolerant once established, be sure to water your fast-growing tree thoroughly during the first few years to establish a strong root system.

The tree may lose its green color if it is not being watered properly. The needles will turn brown until healthy again. Italian cypress roots travel deep into the ground so choose your planting spot with care.

Make sure soil is well draining – this tree does not like wet soils and may be susceptible to root rot. To properly care for Italian cypress, it is a good idea to pick a proper planting site and soil that retains moisture.

Planting Italian Cypress Trees

Plant Italian Cypress in the United States Department of Agriculture growing zones 7-10. This tall screen tree cannot withstand freezing temperatures for too long. It will turn the gray-green leaves brown and can kill the tall narrow tree.

This is a fire-resistant tree and it is also resistant to pests and diseases like spider mites. Shake off excess dirt from the root ball before planting to encourage new growth.

Buy Italian Cypress online from Perfect Plants. We give you several options for size to make the Italian Cypress more cost-efficient. If you are looking for an older, more established tree purchase the larger sizes!

Great Annotated Aircraft Encyclopedia
Format: Hardcover
This book was a gift for my husband who is an aircraft fanatic. We live near an airbase, which is now out of commission, but in the past, there was an aircraft museum with information about aircraft, which fascinated my husband. This book was a great surprise for him because it is not just full of pictures, but also includes text about the history, building, and uses of each aircraft.

Great Guide to the National Air & Space Museum
I recently visited the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. It was the first time I'd been there since they moved into their current facility in the mid-1970's. It was breathtaking. The best way to describe the effect of walking in the main entrance is to envision the bedroom of a boy who hangs model airplanes from the ceiling. Only at the NASM, the "models" hanging from the ceiling are full-size. I was a model-building boy in the 1950's, and my favorites were planes I'd built from kits. Unfortunately, the museum was undergoing some of its regular updating and a few of my favorite planes weren't on view, such as the F89 Super Saber. Fortunately, that plane and most (if not all) the permanent collection are profiled in the Best of the National Air and Space Museum. If at all possible, visit the museum. If you can't get there, buy the book. Actually, buy the book in either case. You won't be disappointed.

The Air & Space Museum is a national treasure.
Format: Hardcover
This is one of those books that makes you wish you were there. Lots of pictures and tidbits of information. A good quality book physically as well. We get their magazine and this is one of many books we have both from and about the museum. Highly Recommended.

Great photo essay, history of aviation and space
i'm an engineer- worked rocket motors, and various satellite programs. this book was recommended by associate after visiting the museum at Langley. The pics are super, with short descriptions, and moderate on the tech. It's an amazing pulse of this wild history, and mostly is from America's lineage. St. Louis, Mercury, Atlas, and up to current Shuttle. There's also the SST, and unique turn of the century early birds. A fine read to be shared with a youngster (my son 10, digs it), or for the history or engineering buff. amazon has it cheaper than at the museum.

Essential reading for PowerPoint presenters.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Cliff shows details how to improve our PowerPoint presentations. He gives concrete and simple steps to transform a message into a targeted presentation. All of us have suffered from presenters who went over their allotted time because they had vital information to give us, yet we still didn't know their main point. Many have seen slide decks burdened with dozens of bullet points. Did the volume of points yield more clarity or did they dull our ability to focus on the message? Probably not. Read Cliff's book. Follow his method and you'll be a more effective presenter.
